The ICM library, which at the moment contains 11,000 volumes, is an invaluable collection specializing in Central European history, literature, art, social problems and philosophy.

The original nucleus of the collection was donated by Professor Walter Zettl (at that time Director of the Austrian Institute of Culture in Rome) and by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its General Director, Bernhard Stillfried. A significant number of books was later donated by Professor Anton Zahorsky and Professor Lauro Grassi from Milano.

In 2002 the Institute for Central European Cultural Encounters acquired, by donation, the book collection of the renowned Austrian historian Adam Wandruszka (1914-1997), an undisputed academic authority, especially on issues dealing with the Hapsburg Empire and its relations with the Italian context.
